Frequently Asked Questions About DECOCLIM

What is a DECOCLIM for?

Installing a DECOCLIM offers many advantages related to the outdoor unit of your air conditioner or heat pump.

The benefits of DECOCLIM:

  • DECOCLIM helps harmonize your exterior and adds a stylish finish to your installation. Available in 11 colors, our DECOCLIM units blend perfectly with your joinery, windows, or decor.
  • DECOCLIM protects the outdoor unit from weather conditions such as rain, cold, humidity, UV rays, hail, and other harsh elements.
  • Aluminum DECOCLIM units offer corrosion resistance, making them ideal for coastal environments exposed to moisture. They also protect the outdoor unit from impacts, household accidents, vandalism, or natural elements like dust, leaves, or bird droppings.
  • DECOCLIM helps reduce noise range by 10 to 30%. The wooden DECOCLIM absorbs more noise due to its porous structure. When sound waves hit a wooden surface, part of the sound energy is absorbed by the pores of the material, reducing reverberation and ambient noise. The aluminum DECOCLIM, on the other hand, reduces noise range thanks to the angled slats, which reflect the sound downwards and reduce the spread of noise from the fan.

THE PRODUCT

Does DECOCLIM reduce the performance of the unit?

Our DECOCLIM covers are designed with louvered slats and feature a 7 cm offset at the back to ensure efficient air circulation required for optimal device performance.

The louvered slats allow for optimal air exhaust thanks to their downward angle, which prevents air recirculation. The offset ensures the necessary space to maintain incoming airflow, thus preserving motor performance (certified study available here).

Why and how do the louvered slats help maintain proper airflow?

Unlike traditional laser-cut designs, our DECOCLIM covers are specifically engineered to direct airflow downward. The slats are angled based on tests conducted with HVAC professionals, hiding the outdoor unit while guiding the air downwards. Air expelled by your motor’s fan is evenly distributed without being blocked by a flat surface, ensuring optimal airflow out of the DECOCLIM. This setup prevents air recirculation, which can negatively impact your system’s long-term performance. Read the certified study here.

Is DECOCLIM compatible with all air conditioning and heat pump brands?

Yes, DECOCLIM is compatible with all air conditioning and heat pump brands. To find the right size for your outdoor unit, simply enter your installation's dimensions into our online sizing calculator. Please make sure to measure your entire setup—not just the motor—so everything that needs covering (brackets, emergency shut-off box, etc.) fits. The DECOCLIM must be placed as close to the motor as possible to ensure proper airflow.

Does DECOCLIM actually reduce noise from outdoor AC and heat pump units?

Yes. Our DECOCLIM louvers are designed to maintain airflow while also reducing the spread of noise from the fan. A sound reduction of 10 to 30% is typically observed.

Noise reduction varies depending on output demand, environment, and materials used. Note that noise is reflected downward and may bounce off surfaces like tile (as opposed to gravel, grass, or soil). For best sound insulation, the wooden DECOCLIM performs better than the aluminum version.

How many panels does a DECOCLIM include?

All our models (aluminum and wood) are made up of 4 panels: a front panel, two side panels, and a top panel. Optional accessories include a bottom or back panel (note: these two cannot be combined).

What materials are DECOCLIM covers made from?

All our models are made from 100% aluminum with powder-coated finish, or FSC-certified exotic hardwood (category 4 eucalyptus). These are premium materials chosen for maximum durability.

What is powder coating?

Powder coating, also known as “powder paint,” is a type of surface finish used to protect metal objects. Unlike traditional liquid paint that dries in the air, powder coating is electrostatically applied using a spray gun, where the powder sticks to the metal via magnetism.

The powder is then cured in an oven at over 180°C, creating a hard, uniform, scratch-resistant layer that protects against corrosion, UV rays, and other environmental damage. It’s the ideal protection for coastal or humid environments.

What weight can a DECOCLIM support?

Our aluminum DECOCLIM covers can support up to 10–12 kg on the top panel, thanks to a reinforcement bar added in 2024. Wooden DECOCLIM covers can support up to 30 kg (as long as the weight is evenly distributed across the top panel).

Are DECOCLIM covers strong?

All our products are designed to withstand outdoor use. The wooden range is more impact-resistant thanks to the thickness of the wood. The aluminum range is made from aluminum sheets, offering the best compromise between weight, rigidity, and cost. Large panels may feel flexible when handled individually, but once assembled and fixed in place, the product becomes rigid and solid.

Why do you only use louvered slats and not laser-cut patterns?

Unlike traditional laser-cut designs, our DECOCLIM covers are specifically engineered to direct airflow downward. The louvered slats, angled according to tests with HVAC professionals, hide the outdoor unit while guiding air flow toward the ground. Air pushed by your motor's fan is dispersed evenly without being obstructed by a flat front, ensuring optimal air exhaust. This setup prevents air recirculation, which can be detrimental to your air conditioning system over time.

Isn’t DECOCLIM too bulky?

You just need to enter your dimensions into our online calculator to find the most suitable product. Both internal and external dimensions are provided so you can compare them with your unit. We offer many configurations to provide products as close as possible to your exact measurements.

Do you offer custom-made DECOCLIM units?

All our DECOCLIM units are fully modular and fit 99% of installations. With the help of our online calculator, you can enter your outdoor unit's dimensions and find the ideal DECOCLIM size.

If you have trouble finding the right model, feel free to contact our customer service at +33 (0)9 80 80 75 57 or by email at relationclient@decoclim.fr.

Custom sizing is available for specific configurations outside of standard dimensions. This applies to sizing only, not design or structural modifications.

Can I repaint a DECOCLIM cover?

You can easily repaint a wooden DECOCLIM yourself to match your exterior perfectly.

For aluminum models, you will need to contact a professional specializing in powder coating. They will remove the original paint and recoat the DECOCLIM in the color of your choice.

What is the difference between solid aluminum and composite aluminum?

Solid aluminum (also known as full aluminum) is made entirely from aluminum, offering excellent corrosion resistance, great lightness, and exceptional outdoor durability with no risk of delamination or deterioration over time. It requires no maintenance!

Composite aluminum is a sandwich material: two thin aluminum sheets bonded to a polyethylene (or other synthetic) core. While more affordable, it is less robust and less weather-resistant over time. Layers may peel due to weather exposure, and the plastic core is more vulnerable to UV rays and high temperatures.

Which material is the most sun-resistant?

The most sun-resistant material is 100% powder-coated aluminum. It perfectly withstands UV rays, heat, and weather without warping, yellowing, or cracking. Powder coating (baked powder paint) ensures long-lasting color, even in direct sunlight or seaside conditions. Plus, it requires no maintenance!

In comparison:
- Composite aluminum, made from two thin aluminum sheets bonded to a polyethylene core, is less durable. The plastic core may warp under heat, and the outer layers may peel over time.
- Galvanized steel offers good UV and corrosion resistance, but gets very hot in the sun. It can also be sensitive to scratches: if the zinc layer is damaged, long-term protection is compromised.
- Wood, though warm and natural, is the most vulnerable to sunlight. It grays, cracks, and warps due to UV exposure and heat, unless regularly maintained. Constant upkeep (stain, varnish, UV protection) is required to keep it in good condition over time.

What colors are available for aluminum DECOCLIM covers?

Aluminum DECOCLIM covers are available in 11 colors to match any style of exterior.
Standard colors include: White (RAL 9010), Cream White (RAL 9001), and Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016).
For an additional €29, you can choose from other options: Moss Green (RAL 6005), Clay Brown (RAL 8003), Red Brown (RAL 8012), Light Grey (RAL 7035), Dusty Grey (RAL 7037), Umbra Grey (RAL 7022), Jet Black (RAL 9005).

All our DECOCLIM models are powder-coated, meaning coated with oven-baked powder paint, offering outstanding durability, no rust (aluminum cannot rust), and no color fading—even in coastal environments—with zero maintenance required!

Our color selection tips: Choose a tone similar to your facade for maximum discretion, or pick a shade that echoes a decorative element to turn your DECOCLIM into a design feature.

Still undecided? Don’t hesitate to ask us for advice on the best color for your project.

Is DECOCLIM suitable for both air conditioners and heat pumps (air-to-air and air-to-water)?

Yes, DECOCLIM covers are compatible with both air conditioners and heat pumps (PAC), whether air-to-air or air-to-water systems.

What’s the difference between an air conditioner and a heat pump?
- An air conditioner is primarily designed to cool indoor air during summer. It works by extracting indoor heat and releasing it outside.
- An air-to-air heat pump operates on the same principle but is reversible: it heats in winter and cools in summer.
- An air-to-water heat pump captures heat from the outside air to warm water, which then feeds a heating system (radiators, underfloor heating) or domestic hot water circuit.

In all cases—AC or heat pump—the outdoor unit functions the same way: it expels or absorbs heat. DECOCLIM protects and beautifies this unit while maintaining proper airflow thanks to its specially designed louvered slats.

CHOOSING YOUR DECOCLIM

How do I choose the right size DECOCLIM for my unit?

To find the right size for your outdoor unit, simply enter the dimensions of your setup into our online calculator. Make sure to measure the entire installation and not just the motor, so that everything that needs to be hidden (bracket, emergency shut-off box, etc.) is well covered. The DECOCLIM must be placed as close as possible to the motor to ensure good airflow.

Do you recommend professional installers for fitting DECOCLIM?

A list of professionals installing DECOCLIM is available on our website. Enter your postal code in the search bar to see the installers nearest to you, along with their contact details.

How can I hide the bottom of a unit?

We offer a bottom panel accessory to hide the underside of units installed high up. The bottom panel is included in the DECOCLIM box if ordered at the same time.

How can I hide the back of a unit?

To conceal the rear of your installation, we offer rear panels to cover all four sides of your unit. This accessory is generally used for units that are not mounted against a wall, such as rooftop installations or heat pumps located in the middle of a garden.

Note that this accessory is not compatible if your unit is installed against a wall.

Can several DECOCLIM units be combined to cover larger installations?

Yes, DECOCLIM is modular. You can stack or place them side by side to hide larger setups. Extensions are also available to enlarge your DECOCLIM based on your unit's size. Use our online calculator to input the dimensions of your outdoor units and find the appropriate size.

Make sure to measure your unit accurately, as DECOCLIM must be installed close to the motor for proper air circulation.

I want a wood look but don’t want the maintenance. Do you have a solution?

You can let a wooden unit age naturally to develop a grey patina over time. We also offer an aluminium model in clay brown (RAL 8003), which resembles wood and can match elegantly with wooden features.

How can I be sure DECOCLIM fits my setup?

DECOCLIM is designed to fit most installations, for example thanks to its rear offset that allows for cable routing. Be sure to include everything in your measurements (bracket, emergency stop button, pipes extending beyond the motor’s dimensions), so that everything is hidden. If in doubt, contact our customer service at +33 9 80 80 75 57 or by email at relationclient@decoclim.fr.

How do I choose the right DECOCLIM colour?

You can match it to the colour of your facade for maximum discretion, or choose a colour that echoes your joinery or garden furniture and make DECOCLIM a true part of your outdoor decor.

How can I be sure I’m choosing the right colour?

We use the RAL colour chart. You can see the actual colour (without screen-related distortion) in any paint or DIY store by checking a physical RAL sample chart.

Can I order a DECOCLIM in a colour not shown on decoclim.fr?

Yes, we offer custom colours for orders of more than 20 units, with a small extra charge depending on quantity (the bulk paint price is divided and spread across the number of units ordered).

For more details, don’t hesitate to contact our customer service at +33 9 80 80 75 57 or by email at relationclient@decoclim.fr.

Why do you offer double side models?

We offer double side models to meet a common need: covering two units placed side by side, while benefiting from a lower price.

In practice, it’s not a single larger cover but two individual DECOCLIM units shipped together (each with 1 front face, 2 side faces and 1 top face), to be installed symmetrically side by side.

The benefit? You get a discounted price compared to buying two separate models (as long as they are the same size and colour).

Note: this pack does not allow you to cover a single large unit. It is only designed for two distinct, adjacent units.

Which model should I choose for a large setup?

If your installation is larger than average (big outdoor unit, dual-fan heat pump, etc.), you have several options depending on your configuration:
- Model XL or XXL: these formats are designed to cover larger units while maintaining DECOCLIM’s aesthetics and airflow.
- Double height model: ideal for two stacked units or a very tall unit. This vertical format respects necessary clearances and avoids unnecessarily oversizing your DECOCLIM.

You can use our online tool or contact us with your installation’s exact measurements – our team will help you choose the best solution.

MAINTENANCE AND INSTALLATION

Why is it important to protect your air conditioner or heat pump unit with a DECOCLIM?

The louvered design and rear offset intended for airflow intake help maintain and ensure the performance of your outdoor unit (certified study available). Installing a DECOCLIM extends the compressor’s lifespan and reduces the likelihood of unexpected repairs due to weather damage. DECOCLIM helps reduce premature wear of components and protects your device from domestic accidents.

How long does it take to install a DECOCLIM?

Assembling your DECOCLIM takes an average of 5 minutes. We invite you to watch our assembly tutorial videos for our aluminum model and our wooden model to help you install your DECOCLIM. The aluminum range uses a simple clip-on system requiring no tools.

How do you assemble a DECOCLIM?

Our DECOCLIM units are very easy to assemble—child’s play!

The aluminum version requires no screws: simply clip the front panel onto the side panels, then finish by clipping the top panel, making sure all louver blades face downward. Assembly takes just 5 minutes, depending on the size.

The wooden models are also very easy to assemble; they come with the necessary screws and an Allen key. You can watch our video tutorials on our aluminum model and our wooden model for detailed instructions.

How do you install a DECOCLIM properly?

The front panel of the DECOCLIM must be placed as close as possible to the fan of your unit to ensure proper air expulsion and avoid air recirculation.

How do you anchor the DECOCLIM to the ground?

To fix your DECOCLIM to the ground, simply use the pre-drilled holes (located on the side panels) intended for the optional bottom panel. If installing on a concrete slab or similar surface, allow extra space to secure it properly.

Wall mounting is generally easier as it allows tool-free access to the motor. Use ground anchoring only when wall mounting is not possible (e.g., unit not installed against a wall).

Note: Anchoring is not mandatory. If your unit is sheltered from the wind and out of reach of small children, you can simply place your DECOCLIM on the ground without securing it.

Can the DECOCLIM be mounted on a wall?

Yes, absolutely. DECOCLIM units can be wall-mounted using a keyhole slot system. Leave the screw head slightly out from the wall and hang the DECOCLIM just like a picture frame. For elevated installations, we recommend using a bottom panel to hide the underside of the unit.

My unit is installed very high—what should I do?

At a certain height, it’s advisable to choose a DECOCLIM with a bottom panel to hide the unit’s support (available as an accessory). The installation is much more visually pleasing when the entire unit is covered.

Pro tip: If your unit is installed high up (from 2–3 meters), you can mount the DECOCLIM upside down so the louvers face upward. This prevents visibility under the slats and avoids air blowing down on you when walking past the unit.

How do you stack two DECOCLIM units?

All our DECOCLIM units are modular. You can stack same-sized DECOCLIM units to increase total height. There is no limit—you can stack 2, 3, 4, even 5 DECOCLIM units to form a column, for example, to hide HVAC installations in apartment buildings.

On our aluminum DECOCLIM units, two screws on the front panel allow for secure stacking. Simply omit the top panel of the lower unit and fix the complete DECOCLIM above it.

For wooden DECOCLIMs, we recommend fixing them individually to the wall due to their heavier weight. This also makes it easier to handle for maintenance purposes.

How do you access the unit for maintenance?

Our DECOCLIM units are wall-mounted using a keyhole slot system. Leave the screw heads protruding slightly and hang the DECOCLIM like a picture. For maintenance, simply lift and remove it from the wall.

How do you clean an aluminum DECOCLIM?

To clean your DECOCLIM, simply use water and a soft cloth. Avoid using any corrosive or abrasive products that could damage the surface.

How do you maintain a wooden DECOCLIM?

Wood is a natural, living material that requires special care. It reacts to external elements such as cold, humidity, sunlight, and rain. Wood may shrink or expand depending on moisture content. To maintain your wooden DECOCLIM, it is essential to sand it down entirely and apply a wood stain (between 6 months and 2 years after purchase, depending on weather exposure) to preserve the wood. See our maintenance tips.
